It has been a while since the last issue of
the Oregon DeMolay E-Mail
Express. We have been depending on the website, State Officers E-
mails from SMC Mike Newgard and mailings. However, there have been
some requests to resume the Express.
In this issue:
- Congress Wrap-up
- Auction Wrap-up
- DAD Training
- New Chapters under Development
- Oregon Mentors
- Upcoming Events
Congress—The 2003 Oregon DeMolay Congress was held in Salem, OR on
April 26. Elected for installation at Conclave in July were: Josh
Griffin, SMC; Travis Blackburn, SSC; Jacob Imbleau, SJC; Jennifer
Darrow, State Sweetheart; and Tracy Ohlmann, Justine Bevins, and
Alisha Hoover, Honor Court. A special guest was Jason Polonsky, 35th
International Master Councilor. Bro. Polonsky provided an
inspirational keynote address and assisted with developing and
leading training and informational activities the following day.
Thanks to SMC Mike Newgard and the SO's for their work in organizing
the event and the training day.
Auction—The 2003 Oregon DeMolay Auction was held in Wilsonville, OR
on May 4. Funds were raised for the benefit of Oregon DeMolay, the
Masonic Model Student Assistance Program and the many chapters that
contributed baskets and other items. Special thanks to Mom Cynthia
Conner and Dad Jim Conner who co-chaired the event. Also, thanks to
our many high-flying (and high bidding) guests including the high
bidder on the hot air balloon ride! Up, up and away!
DAD Training—Dad Rod Lippert will conduct a DeMolay Advisor
Development (DAD) Training program on Saturday, May 10th at 9:00 a.m.
at Kenton Lodge 8130 N Denver Av, Portland, OR. Any interested
adults who would like to be regularly involved with a DeMolay chapter
are welcome to participate in the program. The program is mandatory
for anyone wishing to serve as a registered advisor. Please call Dad
Lippert at 503-654-1215 to confirm your attendance for planning
materials. Drop-ins are always welcome, though!
New Chapters—Roll out the Welcome mat! Oregon DeMolay will be
growing by two new Chapters and a Squires Manor. A Resolution of
Sponsorship has been received from Medford Lodge for reactivation of
Medford Chapter. Masons from Kenton Lodge in Portland are receiving
Advisor training for reactivation of Peninsula Chapter. Interest has
been expressed and training planned for a Squires program at the
Washington Masonic Center. Let's provide all the support,
encouragement and assistance we can to these new Oregon DeMolay
units.
Oregon Mentors—Check it out! Oregon DeMolay is a "full
member" of
Oregon Mentors, having met all the program Quality Assurance
Standards. "Designed by a partnership between business, mentoring
programs, the Governor's Office and state government, Oregon Mentors
has sought to address the outstanding need for caring adult role
models within Oregon communities. Fully endorsed by the National
Mentoring Partnership, Oregon Mentors helps to strengthen a variety
of programs and services that address the social and educational
needs of youth." This program is entirely consistent with the
objectives of Oregon DeMolay. Our registration with them also
carries some name recognition and other benefits. For example,
endorsement by Oregon Mentors provides important recognition for
State of Oregon employees that Oregon DeMolay is a qualified
organization for their volunteer efforts. Link to www.ormentors.org
and see our listing under Become a Mentor and searching under the
keyword "DeMolay."
