Greetings from the East. Fall is in full swing and so is our Lodge. We are truly back in business in a big way. First, I would like to welcome our newest Masonic Brothers - Andrew Saultz and Brandt Shores. Our October stated meeting dinner was a great success. The Ladies and Gents enjoyed a complete Italian meal prepared by our Knight of the Kitchen, Immediate Past Grand Master, Gareth J. Duggan. Great job –Yum! We also had an official visit by our District 10 Deputy, WB, Rich Martin who brought us greetings from our Grand Master. And I heard that the Ladies had fun that night by being creative and decorating wooden ornaments for our Lodge Christmas Tree. I’d like to thank my lovely wife, Jeannie, (and Janet Martin) for putting that event together. Be sure to mark your calendars for our next stated meeting on November 9, 2005. This will be an official visit from the Most Worshipful Grand Master, Erin L. Endicott. Dinner will be served at 6:00 p.m. Gents, be sure to bring your Ladies, too. There is plenty more on our calendar for the rest of the year including Saturday, November 19, 2005 when we will hold a Ladies Tea and Social - a Brunch to honor our Masonic wives. It will be served at 11:00 a.m. and ending about 1:00 p.m. Please help us make this a successful event. Also on our agenda the 4th Annual Masonic Family Old Fashion Christmas Party on Saturday, December 10, 2005 starting at 1:00 p.m. As usual, Santa will arrive shortly there after so bring the whole family. There will be Christmas stockings for the kids, snacks, balloons and of course the big guy in Red and his friendly elves. We will continue our support of the Community Partners for Affordable Housing (CPAH) with our stockings stuffed with gifts that will be given to the needy kids in our community. The delivery of the stockings to the CPAH locations will be on Monday, December 19, 2005. Please join us at the lodge at 5:30 p.m. on the 19th to be a part of the caravan to deliver the stockings to the CPAH kids. Of course, Santa will be there too. This is a really fun event, so please join us! Once again the roll of the workman has been called and Worshipful Brother, Harry Auda has not answered his name. Harry’s Masonic funeral was performed by Worshipful Brother Wilson “Grump” Harvey on October 1, 2005 at Young’s Funeral Home. It was followed by a reception at the Tigard-Orenomah Masonic Lodge. The Eastern Star, Bethel, our entire Masonic family will miss him dearly. His service to our Masonic family has been above and far beyond the call of duty and he will forever live in our hearts. Good-bye faithful servant for now…. Fraternally, Worshipful Master, Bill Phillips From the West Installation – Where has this year gone? I am looking at the installation and it was just literally yesterday I was being installed as Senior Warden. Are we natural born leaders? I would have to say an emphatic “No.” If we read in the “Magic of thinking Big,” we see the following: “Action cures fear.” Let’s think about this for a second, we have to practice any skill. Just like the practice of your craft as a Mason – you get better with practice. That is what is so beautiful about the work we do when we raise a Master Mason or any of the other appendant body ritual work.. Fraternally, Brother Kent Dyer, Senior Warden From the South How do we measure a man’s worth? As a young man, not yet a Mason, I liked to read the obituaries each morning as a way to learn about the history of Oregon and those who made this state what it is today. At that point in time, some of our most famous citizens were coming to the end of life’s road and their accomplishments were being recognized one last time. Some of the stories I read spoke of a misspent youth followed by a life full of hardships while others showed a life full of love, compassion and charity. I also started to see a symbol that I was not yet familiar with and found that more often than not, this unfamiliar symbol was in the obituaries of those men who had spent a life of love, compassion and charity. As I traveled down life’s path, I learned that the unfamiliar symbol I saw as I read the obituaries was none other than the Masonic Square and Compasses, the emblem of a Freemason. As time passed, I asked the right question and soon this unfamiliar symbol became my personal symbol as I started down a new path in life. I begin to look at things in a different light. I knew the difference between right and wrong, but now I added compassion and love into the equation. I was a good man being made better through Freemasonry. I bring this up because last month another cornerstone of our lodge has passed. WB Harry Auda has laid down his working tools and answered the call of the Great Architect. As I read Brother Auda’s obituary, I marvel at all he had accomplished in his Masonic career. He cherished the Eastern Star ladies, was proud of the young ladies of the Bethel and was as I said a cornerstone of our lodge. Men who seek our order are brought to light in the Entered Apprentice degree as GOD brought light upon the face of the world. From this date forward, I will remember Brother Auda as the light of our lodge for he was our lodge electrician. Until we meet again, so mote it be. It is with great sadness that you say good-bye to him. Our thoughts are with his family and we need to remember to support them as much as possible. This last month we were requested by the Grand Chapter to hold a paper drive for the hurricane relief efforts and that went well. We are still continuing to collect school supplies of all kinds for Sister Lois Ann's school As Eastern Star members it is our duty to help those in need and I am proud of the job that Tigard Orenomah does. Keep up the good work. Charlotte Karvia Worthy Matron November 2, 2005 Stated meeting November 16, 2005 Stated meeting, School of Instruction - POTLUCK DINNER Posted By: Webmaster |
