FROM THE EAST

December 2005 - Trestleboard

Happy Holidays from the East. For me this is the best time of the year and the most fun. Our 4th annual Masonic Christmas Party is on Saturday, December 10th at 1:00 p.m. Santa Claus {The Real Santa Claus, not some guy just dressed up in a red suit} will be arriving with stockings stuffed with toys and joy for kids along with fun. So mark your calendars, bring your family and join to make this the best event yet.
On Wednesday, December 14th meeting will be with a special YUMMY Holiday dinner will be served at 6:00 p.m. our Knight of the Kitchen. Ladies are invited and the stated meeting will start at 7:30 p.m., which will include a special speaker.
The entire Masonic family will again support the needy kids in our community by providing seventy-five Christmas stockings. We will meet at the Lodge on Monday, December 19th at 5:00 p.m. to the various {CPAH} Community Partners for Affordable Housing projects and gives us visibility to the community.
Our Saint Johns Day celebration will be on Tuesday, December 27th at 7:00 p.m. at Gresham Masonic Lodge #152. We will meet at our Lodge at 5:30 p.m., if Brothers need a ride to caravan over to Gresham.
For the seventh time this year I am sad to say the roll of the workman has been called and Brother Dick Raz has not answered his name and he had a Masonic funeral conferred November 14, 2005 at St James Episcopal Church in Tigard. Brother Dick enjoyed cooking pancakes at the Easter breakfast and the Brotherhood. He will truly be missed.
I am proud to announce the installation of officers for the Lodge went off with out a hitch in November. This also means that this will be my final opportunity to speak with you in this forum. First, I would like to thank my Officers for giving me the gift of your loyal support through the ups and downs of this last year. To our Masonic Family I am very grateful and honored to know and work with all of you - Thank You!
Finally I would now like to reveal my hopes for the future. First, the reason I joined the Masonic order is because growing up I was not only not a good man but most assuredly not a good son. And so as a living amends to my Father who died in 1988, a 32nd degree Mason himself, I have strived to be a good man and Mason in his honor. Serving as your Master has helped me achieve this goal. When I was 14 years old my Mother, Sister and I moved to a small apartment in Tigard. I remember we barely had enough food to eat and of course I remember Christmas being very sparse that year. For the future, I want to insure needy kids in our community get the help they need and that all our Masonic Brothers and Sisters, Sons and Daughters receive all we can give them. Being of service to you has been an honor and privilege. Thank You, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.

Best Regards in 2006,

Worshipful Master Bill Phillips

From the West
I am humbled and honored to be elected and installed for the 2006 office of Worshipful Master. Several things are slated. First of all, please be sure to mark your calendar for: Masonic First Ladies in March with Stan Schmidt and Table Lodge in April. Please stay tuned for other exciting events for the up coming year.

For 2006 programs, I will be pushing for enhanced widows, visitations for shut-ins as well as archival of lodge memorabilia.

See you at lodge!
Fraternally,
Brother Kent Dyer, Senior Warden

From the South
Something Old - The end of the year is fast approaching and with it comes the closing of another Masonic year here at Tigard-Orenomah. I want to thank our outgoing Worshipful Master, WB Bill Phillips for his hard work in lodge this past year. While it is true that the ritual was not his strong suit, our lodge none-the-less was the recipient of something much more valuable than memory work and that was the sincere love our Worshipful Master has for his lodge Brothers and Freemasonry. My thanks to WB Bill and his lovely wife Jeannie for all the hard work they did.

Something New – St. John’s Day is the start of our new Masonic year and I am excited to sit in Lodge and watch our new Worshipful Master, WB Kent Dyer weaves his magic. With a family history of Freemasonry and a Senior DeMolay, WB Kent will not stop at anything less than 100% in pursuit of a fruitful year in the East. I look forward to working with him and support his year as he fills our lodge with fun and harmony. I encourage all our Brothers to come and sit in a lodge full of excitement in the new-year.

Something Blue – It is with a very sad heart, that I must report to you the passing of another Brother, the 5th in as many months. On November 11, 2005, Brother Dick Raz laid down his working tools and answered the call of the Great Architect of the Universe and entered that house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. Brother Raz became a Mason late in life; he was one of those good men who just didn’t know how to knock on the door of Freemasonry until there was silver in his hair. He was a cornerstone in downtown Tigard and ran the Tualatin Glass shop on Main Street for many years. A memorial service was held on Monday, November 14, 2005 at St. James Episcopal Church here in Tigard and the turn out of non-Masons was unbelievable. It was standing room only and parking caused a traffic jam on Bull Mountain Road. However on the Masonic side, the Worshipful Master along with 6 other Lodge Brothers are all that showed up to send this good Mason off which is a poor showing for our Brother’s family.

Your humble servant
Art Bush, Junior Warden

Our Installation is Dec 29th. Yes that's a Thursday night but our HQ elect has a dad who lives in California and this was the only time he could be here. We would love to fill the room so he can see what a great group of people our Mason's, Eastern Star, DeMolay, and Jobie's we have. We will have great refreshments afterward but there will not be a dance since many will have to get up and go to work the next day.

Meet 1st and 3rd Weds

I would like to start off by saying 'thank you and you all did a great job'. A big THANK YOU goes to Candy who energized the crew at social club to do some great projects for a bazaar down in Corvallis, sharing a table with St. Mary's Chapter. Candy has been diligent about working to get OPM.
Our first meeting in Dec. we will be welcoming a new member.
We are still collecting school supplies. With this being December, when the kids go back to school in January it will again be important for them to have the correct supplies to learn.
We will be participating with the Masons on Dec. 10 in the Masonic Christmas party. Everyone is encouraged to participate and come join the festivities.
