FROM THE EAST

January 2006 - Trestleboard

My Brothers,

Happy New Year! As we start a new year, we start a new journey with new and fresh faces, a new beginning for the Lodge. This is a new time of reflection and understanding. We are turning a new leaf, a new corner. We think of New Year’s as a time when I could “fill in the blank.” This could be a trip to “fill in the blank” or lose “fill in the blank”, and so on. All clichés aside, why not take the time to come to lodge and help us chart that journey and we could be part of yours?

What are your goals for the New Year? Is it to buy a new car? Lose 10 pounds? Come to five lodge meetings? Coming to lodge as a New Year’s Resolution? Think of it this way, the lodge is very much like your home. It has a foundation, structure, and roof. If any of those parts fail, then the structure fails. What can we do to get you to come back to your lodge?

When we take our obligations as Masons, we are charged to ever live, work, and act as one. Is it difficult to get to lodge, or are you afraid that you will miss your favorite TV Show? Please give myself or any of the officers a call and we can help get you to and from the meeting.

It is with sadness, we have bid adieu to Bro. Dick Raz on 11/12/05. I have worked with Dick in the Kitchen for Easter. He will be sorely missed not for his labor at Easter, but his presence in lodge.
Congratulations are in order for Andy Sulz, who has proved up on his proficiency for his EA Degree. Ole Riise, who, after being away in college for year and a half, we were able to “finish up the last piece in a man’s journey to becoming a Master Mason” and complete his MM Proficiency!

One of the programs that I will be initiating this year is going to be the “Year of the Past Master.” Why am I so interested in what the Past Master has to offer? Looking at it from the perspective of the Past Master is an “expert” in the fact that he has been through the thought process and how to complete tasks. Past Masters, I will be calling on you to gain knowledge and not for labor. You are however, more than welcome to come back to lodge and help us out.

Another program and area I will be working on is the Widows and shut-ins. This is not just a “once a year program” where, we meet with the ladies, who get together. We are obligated to help these important individuals throughout the year. When I went to Bend Lodge a couple years back to see my DeMolay Dad get his Hiram Award, I was pleasantly surprised to see that the lodge has a “Widows Club.” MWB Erin Endicott has also charged us with this task as well for 2006.

Fraternally,

Kent Dyer

From the West
The shortest day and longest night, December 21st, are behind us as we step into the New Year with our eyes fixed firmly on the horizon. We are under the new leadership of Worshipful Master Kent Dyer, who has been diligent in preparing himself for the duties required of the Master of a Lodge. I know WB Dyer has attended all the “Officers Charges” and has his year in the East planned in great detail. This should be a great year of food, fun, and fellowship.

While we start our new year on the up beat, it is with a sad heart that we ended our year with the loss of another Brother. Bro. Richard Raz laid down his working tools and passed to that house not built with hands just before Thanksgiving. His loss is extremely heavy for me personally as he was a good friend that I knew long before he found Freemasonry. Bro. Raz worked the grills during the Easter Breakfast and if you visit our web site, you will see pictures of Bro. Raz working his magic. Good Bye my friend.

My Brothers, I have heard it many times from Masons who have not attended lodge in a long time say that they couldn’t remember enough to get into lodge. Nothing could be further from the truth! If you are a member of Tigard-Orenomah Lodge and your dues are current, have no fear, you will be made welcome not matter how long you have been away. You will never have to fear not being able to get into your own lodge and we will never let you be embarrassed for not remembering all the work. Come sit in lodge and enjoy the love of our fraternity. If transportation is an issue, please call me and I will personally arrange for you to attend lodge.

Tigard-Orenomah is becoming very busy with degree work and it is time for those of you who have not coached for a while to step back in the mix and enjoy the pleasure of teaching the degrees to a new Brother. With our new Fellow of the Craft lesson plans, being a Coach is a breeze and in fact, very informative. Please step forward and relive some of the burden off the shoulders of those coaches who are doing two or three candidates at a time. We need your assistance!

Your humble servant in the West, WB Art Bush @ 503-624-8665

January is a great month to come visit our Bethel. We will have a new slate of officers and we just added two new great Jobies to our Bethel. Our HQ has chosen music as her project. We will be doing things to keep the music in schools. So if you come to visit us on Jan 23rd please bring with you something that symbolizes your favorite song or singer. Our first meeting is Jan. 9th and it will be a Fireside/Pants and Pizza meeting starting at 7 pm. On the 28th we will have a Dance Marathon to raise money. Please, Please sponsor a Jobie to dance the night away so we can raise some great money for this cause. Many of our girls are involved with music at school and we'd love to keep it in school forever.

We'd like to thank everyone for the pop cans. It helps our scholarship fund grow. We will have 3 girls graduate this year too. Thanks for all you do.

Eastern Star Chapter No. 174
Meet 1st and 3rd Weds

I'd like to thank everyone who helped with our initiation, it went very well. I'd like to thank everyone who helped with the Masonic Christmas Party, it was a success!
I want to remind everyone again that we are collecting school supplies for Lois Ann's school. She works at an elementary school so if anyone would like to bring supplies to the lodge hall we will gladly make sure that they get where they need to be.
I wish everyone a happy, healthy, and successful new year.
