FROM THE EAST

April 2006 - Trestleboard

My Brothers,

We are in the transition zone between winter and spring. Does this mean we are transitioning our lives? It is all a matter of perspective, really. We look to each other for good counsel and being able to come through in the time of need. Myself? I have been the most lax in coming through in the time of need and helping others. However, I do find myself counseling with several of the Brothers on at least a weekly or even 2-3 times a week basis. Not only is it good to see how the other person is doing, but I have found it invaluable to counsel and get advice from the other Brother.

Walt Lykovitch has taken on the task of coordination of the visitation of Widows and shut-ins. We are establishing the program in our lodge as in the past, the only time we get together with these important people of our fraternity. It is important that we treat these people with dignity and respect. It was amazing to go see WB Herman Jobleman, who was in a rehabilitation clinic and in need of being buoyed up by others. What a fantastic Brother!

After our Stated Meeting in April, please have your lady attend as they will be assembling the decorations for the Easter Breakfast.

I have talked with the “Knight of the Kitchen” Gareth Duggan, and we are asking that you please RSVP to him at (503) 590-1491 and let him know how many will be attending for the stated meeting’s meal. This will help aid with the planning of the meal.

Fraternally,

WB Kent Dyer

From the West
To my Worshipful Master, to the Brothers of Tigard-Orenomah Masonic Lodge and to those other Masonic Brothers who had the opportunity to read my March Trestle Board message from the West, please accept my apologies if the tone of my message offended you. It was never my intent to create disharmony or disruption with in the Lodge and it appears that that may have happened. The sole purpose of my message was to let those of you who do not attend lodge by choice, realize what your actions are doing to your lodge and your lodge Brothers. If my words have come across too strong, you have my apology however the message remains the same.

As a change of pace, Bro. Bunch has expressed a desire to speak from the West, so this month’s message from the West will be from Bro. Bunch.

Your humble servant,

Art Bush,

A brother mentioned to me recently that 90 percent of the work necessary to keep the Blue Lodge viable is done by 10 percent of the people. This is reminiscent of the findings of Vilfredo Pareto (1848-1923) who developed a mathematical model that attempted to describe the distribution of wealth in any given society. The formulae, logN = log A + mlogx, where N is the number of people whose income is higher than x, with A and n acting as constants, has proven to be extremely important in the fields of Economics and Statistics. More simply stated, 80 percent of the wealth is held by 20 percent of the people, or in our case 20 percent of the Brothers do 80 percent of the work. Pareto’s Law has stood the test of time, so you might begin to realize that if 10 percent of the Brothers are really doing 90 percent of Lodge work, the Lodge is not in natural balance. In fact, the only way to make Pareto’s Law work in a Lodge of, say, 200 brothers (sound familiar?) is to have 20 percent of the brothers available to attend to the work of a Lodge at any given time. Now, we simply have to determine how many brothers that would be. I am sure you will arrive at the appropriate number, which is 40. It is our goal then to find 40 of N in 200 of x. Please ask yourself to which group you currently belong. Are you a Brother that is a Lodge member and works, or a Brother that is just a Lodge member? Now that you have identified yourself, please recognize this fact when you look at yourself in the mirror everyday. You will always be a Brother, there is no going back. But are you willing to continue to be in your identified group? Do you want to be in the group that confidently and proudly smiles back every morning? Then the first step is to make the Stated Meeting. See you there!

Good News Brothers - Easter is upon us!
As Masons, one of our obligations is to provide for and look after the wives and families of our dearly departed Brothers. On April 16, 2006, the Tigard-Orenomah Masonic Lodge #207 will have it's annual Easter Breakfast to help raise funds for our charities. This Breakfast; is one of our only, Fundraisers of the year, and is therefore vitally important.
I invite those of you Brothers who will be able to help to contact me or Art Bush to let us know your availability.
Our Breakfast, which will begin at 7am and continue until about 12:30, will consist of three shifts (6:00 to 10:30) (10:00 to 1:00) and (11:30 to 1:30 for cleanup). You will have help as in the past with the dinning area; by the Bethel Ladies and the DeMolay Gentlemen, but we still need you in the kitchen and for Advisors.
Tigard-Orenomah Lodge phone number is (503) 620-3838. Whether you are able to work or not, we all look forward to seeing you on Easter Sunday April 16.

We will be having our Go to Church on the 2nd. Please contact HQ Katie Phelps for more information if you would like to join us.

We are planning an afternoon in the park. I will have Kent send out an announcement when the plans have been finalized. We would love to have you join us for some fun in the park. Our craft night in March was such a huge success and we had so much fun that this should also go along with that theme.

This month we are happy to have 4 girls who have demitted from some other bethels join us. It is an honor to have them and they do a great job in our meetings.

Wonderful Mason's would you be interested in having secret daughters? Think about this and let us know. We have some girls interested in doing this. If you have a free 2nd or 4th Monday night, come visit us.
